3 Packing Essentials For Women Backpacking Around New Zealand

Packing for any trip can be stressful. In between deciding how many outfits you should take per day, what to wear in the weather conditions and how big of a case to take with you, packing can move from easy to stressful.   1. A Breathable, Waterproof Jacket

New Zealand, as it is located far south of the equator, sees a large amount of rain every year. It is also known to be notoriously unpredictable, with strong and freezing winds making their way up from the Arctic all throughout the year. This make is especially important for anyone who visits to bring a breathable but waterproof jacket for comfort and also to keep the wearer safe, protecting you from getting soaked. 

What to look for: A jacket needs to be high-performance. It may be tempting to buy a less expensive or fashionable jacket; however, these will not protect you from the elements. Instead, opt for high-performance materials such as GORE-TEX, making sure the jacket is sealed and has a hood. 

  1. Merino wool base layers

Materials such as wool are terrible for cold and humid conditions as they retain heat, causing the wearer to overheat easily. Instead, opt for materials such as merino wool and cashmere as they have warmth as well as breathability which is essential for outdoor walking and hiking activities. In addition, ensure that you stay away from any polyester materials as they may feel thick and comfortable but they retain moisture and be a cause of overheating.

Just like you should always carry a moisturiser or face primer with Spf, you should also carry a microfiber towel.
