Embracing the outdoors is something we should all do more often and when given the
opportunity to do fun and adventurous activities, you should get stuck right in. But you might be
left wondering what else you can do other than hike around the beautiful place we all call New
Zealand. Women enjoy doing crazy, adrenaline-seeking activities just like everyone else so I
have compiled together both wild and mild outdoor activities that women can enjoy with
locations and more detailed information we thought was valuable.
We hope you stumble on something today that not only piques your interest but brings you even
closer to the world because, at the end of the day, that’s what we were put on earth to do! To
enjoy the world beneath our feet.
Redwoods Treewalk
You can’t get an outdoor activity without some sort of walking and what better place to live your jungle fantasy than in Redwoods Treewalk?
Redwood trees were introduced to New Zealand around the start of the 20th century as a supply of timber; they are not native to the country. However, the hospitable environment of New Zealand allowed the enormous plants to flourish, and in a little over a century, they grew to heights of almost 230 feet.
These days, mountain biking and hiking in Rotorua’s Whakarewarewa Forest provide a striking backdrop. Wander around the Redwoods Treewalk, a network of springy suspension bridges suspended forty feet above the forest floor, offering a bird’s-eye perspective.
Jetboats
In the realm of adventure sports, New Zealand lady daredevils have been trailblazers, bringing bungee jumping to a wider audience and creating new pursuits like jetboating and blackwater rafting, which we’ll discuss shortly. In the latter, one is riding in a craft that shoots water out the back to drive itself forward at a fast rate of speed.
Because jetboats are made to speed across shallow rivers, you can reach places conventional boats can’t, including the gravelly Dart River and the canyon-flanked Shotover River, both of which are close to Queenstown and a beautiful sight you should have the opportunity of relish in. On fast-moving cruises, Shotover Jet’s expert pilots perform dizzying, spray-producing 360 degree spins and fly through tight stone barriers.
This is a great way to have some fun in the outdoors while being with a bunch of friends and even strangers to share the moment with and is definitely a memorable experience.
Ziplining
Have you seen that meme? “I feel like you are just here for the zipline.” Well, in this case, we are. Such a fun outdoor experience that is widely popular with everyone. Ziplining falls between easy gondola trips to scary bungee jumps.
While a zipline may not provide the same level of safety as a gondola because of its slower-moving cabin, the snug harness will feel far more secure than the ankle restraints you receive for a bungee jump.
To determine the ideal places for zipping, just choose your preferred style of scenery: You may pan past views of the shoreline close to Auckland, through forests in Rotorua, and across alpine scenery in Queenstown’s not-so-humbly called Remarkables mountain range. You can ride the attraction backwards, upside down, or backward and upside down for even more excitement.
Zorb
While this might sound like some sort of extraterrestrial activity, you could go as far as to say it’s just as strange.
Zorbing, which is essentially rolling down a hill while enclosed in a massive translucent ball, is undoubtedly one of New Zealand’s most peculiar contributions to the adventure sports industry. This is still the greatest place to try out the unusual pastime, which made its debut in Rotorua in 1994. At Zorb Rotorua, you can ride alone or with one or two other people, fall down lush hillsides along a variety of tracks, and even choose to ride in a water-filled ball so that you end up wet and disoriented.
It’s a great outdoor activity that you can do with friends and even family and will definitely be a lasting memory.
Black-Water Rafting
Tubing down underground rivers, especially at the Waitomo Caves, where you can drift under a stone ceiling turned phosphorescent by many glowworms, is known in New Zealand as “black-water rafting.”
Cave tubing is typically combined with other physically taxing activities offered by the Legendary Black Water Rafting Co., such as rock climbing, rappelling into gorges, squeeze- jumping from waterfalls, and squeezing through tight spaces. Some even say it’s like reenacting the popular 80s film The Goonies, which is a very fun way to look at it. While it’s definitely something for water enthusiasts it can be a really fun and rewarding experience.
Windsurfing and Kiteboarding
While you might be thinking no way in the world, if you are from New Zealand, then you must already know how windy it gets as a whole with average speeds of 18mph and can be up to 46mph gale force winds.
So when in Rome! It’s the perfect place to try windsurfing at least once while you are here, especially in Wellington Harbour.
This might be an outdoor activity that only appeals to those who don’t have a fear of heights; however, there are many precautions put in place for your safety so be sure to go on a day where the winds aren’t crazy and you should have some great fun.
Paragliding
The popularity of paragliding in New Zealand might shock but it’s definitely an outdoor activity that everyone gets behind. Whether it’s to get a good feel for what life would be like as a bird or to bask in the beautiful views of the world below.
Paragliding, if you are unfamiliar, involves strapping yourself into a harness solo or with another that is attached to a flap of fabric that, once you jump from a high cliff, glides on a scenic descent. If an outdoor activity could embody both tranquilly and fear, it’s this one, but I imagine the initial jump being the scariest part, and after all that is over, you are just gliding through the air, soaking it all in.
Conclusion
From thrilling jetboating to serene treetop walks, New Zealand offers a diverse range of outdoor activities for women seeking adventure. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or a nature lover, there’s something for everyone in this stunning country.
So pack your bags and all relevant essentials to have an outdoor fun-filled adventure. It’s important to note that all of these activities are accessible and encouraged for everyone, no matter gender, religion or background. There are no rules on fun; just ensure that you are dressed appropriately for the sport but also respectfully to your culture, whether it be water-friendly hijabs or other forms of protection.
