Some Great New Zealand Fishing Destinations You Want To Try

fly-fishingNew Zealand can only be seen as a paradise for those that love fishing. You can fish for salmon and trout in places ranging from smaller springs to large wilderness waters. Whether you travel by campervan or you look for something similar to the fishing charters by UFC in Miami, here are some great recommendations to think about.

Central North Island

The best fishing destination in the area is definitely Lake Taupo. The lake with the tributaries are renowned for great fisheries that attract so many visitors every single year. If you are looking for rainbow fisheries, do consider a visit, there are some springs that have around 900 fish in just one kilometre.

Eastern North Island

The number of fishing options here are numerous, with some wonderful lakes in the Rotorua district and some wonderful remote rivers. You will want to visit the Te Urewera National Park and the hydro lakes that are man-made in the upper part of the Waikato River. Fishing enthusiasts can catch rainbow and brown trout.

The top of the South Island

The waters are clear and the brown trout population is quite large. You will want to seriously consider the popular Nelson, Marlborough region. Many wonderful fisheries with trout are present. Fish will be wary and it will be a little tough to catch but you will find something that is great for you without searching too much.

Central South Island

The beautiful large braided rivers and lakes are characteristic of this area, and have salmon and trout. More rainfall will be present in the west so take that into account. The larger lakes will feature salmon as the big catch but other fish can be caught.

Bottom of the South Island

You will want to give Mataura a try because of the dry fly water quality. Smaller streams are preferred by some fishermen but if you want to have a top notch experience, focus on the tannin stained streams. Just be careful with the strength of the river since some are really powerful – you need to be careful if you fish in strong waters.
