Waiheke Island – Paradise on Auckland’s Doorstep

kayaking waiheke
Waiheke Island close to Auckland but a world away

Just off the coast of Auckland is the Island Paradise of Waiheke – close to the hustle and bustle of Auckland, but a world away. Once the home of hippies, it still retains a little of that counter culture charm, but now it also includes world class cafés and wineries.

However the most arresting part of Waiheke Island is it’s natural bounty of beaches and bays – white sand beaches and rocky bays surround the island and lure visitors at any time of the year.

A regular Ferry takes you from downtown Auckland to Waiheke Island where a bus meets the Ferry to take you around the Island, or you can join in an organised tour of the island.

wowHire an electric bicycle – a friend recently hired one and had the best time – it is quite hilly, so an electric boost helped on the hills – just remember not to stop half way up a hill, because it is hard to get going again!

Here you can  swim, walk,  snorkel and kayak or just sit and enjoy the view from this beautiful one bedroom private self-contained apartment with ocean views set in tranquil bush.  It is a magical setting – just  5 mins walk through private bush to a secluded beach and coastal walkway. Close to cafes and shops.

As one visitor said:  I‘m loath to praise to highly lest this beautiful homestay is fully booked next time we revisit! A weekend of bliss in a unique and special setting. The accommodation has a bright and fresh touch that reflects and enhances the environment, inviting it in through ceiling to floor glass. The views over indigenous bush to the ocean provide room to breath in total privacy. A short walk to the beach through the bush and various walkways brings one closer to the multitude of birds with the Tuis providing gurgling accompaniment. Many thanks Judith.
