One Women’s Guide to Backpacking in New Zealand

In 1974 I came to New Zealand (from Sydney, Australia) on a hitch-hiking holiday.  I loved it so much I never went home – these days I need a pretty big truck to move all the stuff that in mine, but I loved living with a pack on my back and exploring New Zealand from that perspective.

Tami Zemel did the same thing last year, and loved it so much that when she returned home she wrote a travel guide to share what she had learnt.

She writes: Unlike  most traveling guide, my guide does not prescribe where to go, where to stay etc. but rather explains how to plan, how to manage etc. what options exist for transportation or for accommodation. It compliments travel guide like Lonely Planet. It’s purpose was to encourage women to travel in NEW Zealand

She did not come across my Women Travel websites unfortunately, but would have loved to have had them as a resource.’

I had the best holiday in my life: 3 weeks in Nz from South Island to North and back to South. I am very very keen to re visit in 2014 alone and considering of staying for a longer period in very close future. So i am open for suggestions and help from anyone. I am a WOMAN.

One way to do it cheaper and stay longer is to join Helpx or Wwoof.co.nz – exchange 4hours a day for full board, and get to know the locals
